Background

My name is Pablo Martinez, and I am a new student at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in College Station, Texas. I have decided to start this blog chronicling the life of a medical student. I don't know how interesting it is going to be, or if anyone will read it, but for anyone curious it should provide an intimate look into my lifestyle.

For those who don't know how the whole process works, I will spend two years taking classes at the med school in College Station. After that, the next two years will be clinically based, with most of my time spent at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas. After a total of four years I will receive my MD, but will not be able to practice medicine on my own until I have completed a residency. In residency, I will spend around three years practicing under a fully licensed physician in a hospital or clinic in order to gain experience. At this point I will be able to begin practicing on my own, or enter a fellowship to specialize in a more specific field.
